Side by side refrigerators have lots of features such as humidity –controlled drawers and water filters .Apart from this another feature is that they have ice/water dispensers through the door. They are considered more upscale and have wood panels on the front to match the cabinetry .There are some manufactures who have introduced similar styling which is less expensive but they are not built into the cabinetry. The side- by- side offers easy access to both compartments. Refrigerators with side by side mounted freezers are more expensive than models with freezers on top or bottom and they require less space for door-swing clearance.
Side by side refrigerators , are by far the most fully featured .It puts both the main compartment and the freezer at the eye level where it's easy to reach .These refrigerators have temperature controlled bins and rapid ice –making cycles as well. The doors being narrow are handy at tight spaces .Side by side refrigerators are generally thirty to thirty six inches wide with nominal capacity of 19 to 30 cubic feet .Though these type of refrigerators are expensive they consume less space and energy .There are certain unique options for example if you want a water and ice dispenser in the door than its advisable to go for a side by side dispenser. The ice and water dispensers are among the most requested consumer feature .A really nice feature that most people can't do with out, is an ice maker which is available in this model.
Side-by-side models also allow easier access to the freezer and regular refrigeration compartments. However there are certain disadvantages as well .They usually have two long doors that are side by side but not as wide as regular refrigerator doors but is very narrow .So if you want to fit in a large tray than its impossible .Its not as energy efficient as the top and bottom freezers. The disadvantage of having a water and ice dispenser in the door of a side-by-side model is that the back of the dispenser typically takes a lot of room inside the unit. That space could otherwise be used for food storage. They are more expensive than some of the other models.
